There's a call for the State to step in to control the cost of energy.
People Before Profit TD Brid Smith is making the call, as customers across the country face energy bills going up yet again.
Yesterday, SSE Airtricity announced that they will increase electricity prices by 35 per cent and gas prices by 39 per cent.
Deputy Smith says she has been taken aback by the announcement:
"Well, I think it's quite shocking. Yesterday's announcement will have sent shockwaves through households right throughout the country. And I listened to some of the commentary on it when the news was announced, and one of the arguments that was being made is that the talk of Windfall Tax on profits was spooking the industry, and we're going to see more and more companies putting up the cost of energy over the next period. And it's about time the state stepped in".
