The Social Democrats has called for agriculture emissions to be cut by the maximum amount as negotiations continue in government.

Progress was made during talks last night but it's still unclear if sectoral ceilings will be revealed today.

Ministers have yet to agree where in the 22% to 30% range agriculture targets will fall.

Climate spokesperson for the Soc Dems, Jennifer Whitmore, says the most ambitious targets possible are needed:

"I'm very concerned that there's talks that this could be this decision could actually be delayed on September. I think it's really important that the government doesn't take this decision down the road that they actually make a decision this week on it. The target needs to be set at the higher end of the scale, in line with scientific and the independent advice that's been received."
