Social Protection Minister Heather Humphreys is reportedly taking over Minister Helen McEntee’s portfolio when she goes on maternity leave next week.
The Irish Independent reports that the arrangement is yet to be signed off by the three coalition leaders, with confirmation expected on Monday.
A cabinet shuffle is due to take place on December 17th, when Tánaiste Leo Varadkar and Taoiseach Micheál Martin swap roles.
At a press conference yesterday, Minister Humphreys praised Minister McEntee for starting a family while holding office:
"I saw us many times in the past, women wouldn't go forward for jobs because, you know, they were afraid that if they got pregnant that they'd lose out. This isn't happening here and Ellen has a you know, holding the highest one of the highest offices in the land. And you know, she really has broke that glass ceiling."
