SSE Airtricity is to forego its profits this year and give support to vulnerable customers instead.
It has more than 700,000 homes and businesses across the island of Ireland and raised its gas and electricity prices in October.
SSE Airtricity has made a profit of €17 million according to its half-year results today, but is putting the money into its energy support programme, as the cost of living crisis bites.
Business Editor Joe Lynam says they'll also be providing funding to charities helping vulnerable households:
"On both sides of the border and now they're going to give that money they're going to give support to 60,000 financially vulnerable customers. They're going to give money to Vincent DePaul and they're going to give money to the Bryson charity and north of the border as well."
