St. Vincent de Paul says it's expecting this year to be its busiest in its 177 year history.
The charity says calls to its helpline could reach almost 200,000 by the end of December.
It's launching it's Annual Appeal today as it aims to deal with the huge number of requests.
National Secretary, Andy Heffernan, says the increased cost of living is having a big impact on people.
"The big item this year is energy, we're all aware of the inflation in energy course and some of that is through the carbon tax.
"The international markets are also pretty squeezed at the moment.
"We're in a perfect storm at the moment, do you feed yourself or do you heat yourself, and unfortunately we do come across many, many examples of that."
