Almost 1,100 Gardaí have been assaulted over the past five years.
New figures also show over 2,400 officers have been attacked since 2012.
Justice Minister Helen McEntee says she plans to increase the maximum penalty to 10 years in jail.
Aontú leader Peadar Tóibín says the new figures are incredible:
"We're talking about hundreds of Gardaí every year, simply being assaulted while they're in service of the community and many people are shocked obviously what happened to Cherry Orchard but these figures show these are not isolated incidents. These are happening regularly and all around the country."
