A Status Yellow freezing fog and ice warning is in place for the entire country until noon today.
Met Éireann is warning motorists of potentially hazardous driving conditions.
The warnings are on top of a general winter weather advisory currently in place until Wednesday.
Alan O'Reilly from Carlow Weather says conditions are poor this morning:
"Freezing fog also settling in and some showers along the west coast, primarily along the west and northwest coast, with a risk of some snow showers in the Northwest. Temperatures are well below normal. We would normally see temperatures daytime temperatures up to eight or nine degrees so we're well below normal, especially the daytime temperatures".
