The Health Minister has denied a political row caused the head of the HSE to resign.
Paul Reid will step away from the health service later this year saying he wants to spend more time with family.
It came after a major disagreement between politicians and clinicians on the future of the emergency department at Navan Hospital.
Health Minister Stephen Donnelly says that didn't have an impact on Paul Reid's decision to resign:
"He's given various reasons one is around family, and I believe that's very real. I know it's often cited. In this case, I think it's very real. A lot of people in health care over the last two and a half years in particular have just been through immense pressure."
