The Health Minister says it's been his 'great honour' to work with Paul Reid.
There had reportedly been increased tensions between the two over plans to reform Navan Hospital's ED.
The HSE CEO stepped down yesterday following just over three years in the job.
Speaking before Cabinet this morning, Minister Stephen Donnelly credited the HSE for Ireland's performance during the pandemic:
"It really has been my great honor to work with him, and we've worked very closely right through COVID, right through the cyber attack. I think when people look at Ireland's performance during COVID, what we see is one of the lowest mortality rates in the world. The HSE and our health care workers, I believe, have represented the very best of our nation, and I think they deserve a lot of the credit."
