Loss of income during Covid has been raised by the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation and students, due to fewer opportunities for part time work, particularly in nursing homes.
Meanwhile, Tanaiste Leo Varadkar says a review is being carried out into the issue of paying students for placements;
"In terms of the matter of student pay, this is a matter that is being considered a review of student allowances is now underway, and will be completed shortly, and it's intended that outcome - once negotiated with the unions - will take effect from September 2021".
