Protests are taking place across the country today with students calling for a hybrid model.
A recent survey showed two thirds want a choice between calculated grades and written exams again this year.
Minister Simon Harris can understand why - but says it's not without its issues:
"We saw the very significant impact that can have on grade inflation. But certainly I think there needs to be a recognition from Government. That senior cycle students have had an extraordinarily difficult time. This year students nearly in particular, they've had almost all of their senior cycle in various ways disrupted and I think we need to reflect that and whatever decision we arrive at."
