Summer spending has arrived with the hot weather.
AIB's Spend Trend shows Health and Beauty and Hardware daily spending are both up 8 per cent.
Men spent 42 per cent more than women on Hardware in May.
AIB Head of SME Retail Banking, John Brennan says people are also splashing out on their summer wardrobes:
We say an increase in clothing in today's results. That's really driven by the under-25 category, who saw an 11% increase month on month in the latest fashion and getting ready for the summer, weather outside, and updating their summer wardrobes. It's likely less of an increase in the older cohorts who are perhaps looking to reuse last year's summer clothes".
