Buying staple items like milk, bread and butter is becoming increasingly more expensive.
It comes as inflation figures hit record highs, with supermarkets some of the worst affected.
More and more shoppers are doing their research before they do their weekly grocery shop.
Caitriona Redmond, food writer with The Irish Examiner, has this advice for those at the tills:
"The best advice is to be loyal to your wallet, be loyal to your budget and not to the supermarkets. To take a look and see what the best special offers are each week, and then match them to the money that you've got. And bear in mind like this is a this is a sample across the shopping baskets and what I might be buying from my family this week will be different from what another family would be buying."
