The Tanaiste says it is the will of the public of Northern Ireland to get its political institutions back up and running.
It's after an agreement was reached between the UK government and the EU on post Brexit issues including trade - which has been called the Windsor Framework.
UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak will visit Northern Ireland later, where he will try to convince politicians to back the deal.
Tanaiste Micheal Martin says it's up to the DUP to decide it's stance, but he believes the agreement has set the ground to enable the return of the Stormont Assembly.
"I do believe that the people of Northern Ireland want the government, the people of Northern Ireland want the decision that they made in the last election validated in the form of the convening of the assembly, the election of an executive, First Minister and Deputy First Minister that can deal with issues that effect people in Northern Ireland in their daily lives."
