The Taoiseach says he is very concerned over the contents of RTE's statement and the subsequent suspension of the DG Dee Forbes.
In a statement issued this evening, Leo Varadkar said all of the matters involved will have to be examined and, perhaps, remedial steps taken to restore trust and confidence.
The Taoiseach is the latest politician to express his concerns over the Ryan Tubridy earnings scandal in RTE.
In a statement issued this evening, he said he is very concerned at the information set out in RTÉ’s statement and the announcement that the Director General has been suspended.
Leo Varadkar said that on the face of it, there has been a serious breach of trust and truth between RTÉ, the Government, the Oireachtas and the people.
He said Media Minister Catherine Martin will brief the Cabinet on Tuesday following her meeting tomorrow with the chair of the RTE Board Siun Ni Raghaillaigh.
The Taoiseach said the Government considers it essential that we have the highest standards of governance, accountability and transparency from RTÉ and will consider what further action may be required.
