The Taoiseach has denied there was any political involvement in the decision of HSE boss Paul Reid to resign.
Mr. Reid will step down in December saying he wants to spend more time with his family.
Tensions between Paul Reid and Health Minister Stephen Donnelly have played out publicly over the planned reconfigure of the emergency department at Navan Hospital.
Taoiseach Micheál Martin has denied that played any part in Paul Reid's decision to resign:
"Paul spoke to me this morning, he text me to let me know he will be talking to the HSE Board and Chair and he spoke to the minister as well. I'm going to pay a very warm tribute to Paul Reid, in the first instance for his leadership for the HSE through an extraordinary number of years."
