The Taoiseach says lowering the gender identity age would be a major help to young trans people.
The government is looking at lowering the age where a person can self-determine their gender from 18 to 16.
This would allow young people to change gender more easily.
Micheál Martin says young trans people need support:
"I think we should consult with young trans people to hear their views. Many have endured unacceptable bullying. We need to inform the wider community in terms of the issues so that there's greater acceptance and also greater support for young people who are going through challenging times."
