The Taoiseach says the Chief Medical Officer is aware of the respect he has for him.
It’s after reports emerged that Dr Tony Holohan abandoned his secondment to Trinity College Dublin due to a lack of support from Micheal Martin.
A report into the appointment has been shared with senior ministers and will be discussed at cabinet tomorrow.
The Taoiseach confirmed the planned 187 thousand euro salary was due to be paid by the State:
I had a quick look at it last evening. I will study it in greater detail today. Talk to my government colleagues in relation to it. But it is clear that the funding was to come from the Department of Health, through to to the health research work in and out of which the the salary would have been paid."
