The Government will have spent almost two billion euro on measures to combat cost of living increases since October, according to the Taoiseach.
A new package will be announced tomorrow including cutting VAT on electricity and gas to nine per cent.
There will be additional payments made to those getting the fuel allowance and the PSO levy will be scrapped.
But Taoiseach Micheál Martin admits it won't be enough to totally offset the cost of living for people:
"Clearly the the war is having an impact and I've been very consistent that we cannot entirely deal with or respond 100% to all of the increases that have happened as a result of the pandemic and as a result, what we can do is do the very best we can to alleviate pressures on people. And we have done that too close to 2 billion allocation from both the budget and measures, and since January."
