People should put their health first when it comes to deciding on heating their homes in the forecasted cold weather, according to the Taoiseach.
Met Eireann's issued a national status yellow low temperature and ice warning for Thursday and Friday.
"Hazardous conditions" are predicted, as temperatures fall to minus four degrees overnight on Thursday.
Taoiseach Michael Martin says winter supports are always under review, while there is no issue with the security of energy supply:
"So far, we should be okay. Earlier in the year, no one can ever give ultimate guarantees to the entirety of of the winter period. But we've had a mild winter so far and we are about to enter into obviously a difficult week or two in terms of the weather."
