A People Before Profit TD is calling for Irish workers to get 3 extra public holidays.
Bríd Smith says it's good the Government is thinking about an extra one, but it should be moved up to the same as the rest of Europe.
She thinks 'Lá le Bríde' would be a good day to start on the 1st of February.
Deputy Smith says workers deserve 3 extra days:
"Irish workers only get nine public holidays annually, where as the average across Europe is 12. And like many workers rights across Europe are way behind. So we did put in a bill in May, calling for an extra three public holidays annually for workers so I think beyond the issues around Covid and the extra mile, that workers went to during the pandemic, I think they deserve an extra three days anyway."
