Gino Kenny is drawing up a bill he plans to put before the Dáil next year.
He says attitudes have changed in Ireland in the eight years since the last time it was proposed.
The People Before Profit TD says our drugs policy should not seek to criminalise users:
"Giving people educational facts, not sending them through the criminal justice system- that is the best model, in my opinion that works for people throughout other jurisdictions, where other countries have legalised cannabis. The outcomes, harm reduction in relation to the regulation and control, taxing a drug like cannabis. To me, in my opinion, its the better model for outcomes for everybody."
