TDs will debate proposed laws to give all workers sick pay in the Dail later.
Three days would be offered initially, before increasing to 10 by 2026.
As it stands, the Sick Leave Bill would require employees to be paid at least 70% of their normal wage, up to a maximum of €110 per day.
Chief Executive of ISME, Neil McDonnell, says the government bill will impact some businesses more than others.
"They're not a licence to take another 4, or 5, or 6 holiday days per year.
"Although unfortunately that is quite typical in some areas of the public service, and we would not want to see that replicated in the private sector, as it would come at very significant cost."
