Secondary and Primary school teachers could be taking to the picket lines as they threaten strike action over pay.
The ASTI which represents secondary teachers is calling for a significant improvement in wages to help offset spiralling inflation.
National teachers across the country will also be balloted on strike action in the coming weeks over pay.
ASTI President Miriam Duggan says the government must make a realistic offer to teachers.
"There is a window of opportunity where we can sort this out.
"The offer that is made to us must bear some relation to the penalties that people are experiencing when they're attempting to pay their bills and make ends meet.
"Effectively, workers are working with a pay cut, so to offer us 5% over two years to cope with the inflation that we're experiencing isn't realistic."
