A technical investigation is about to get under way at the scene of a suspected double-murder suicide in north Kerry.
The office of the state pathologist and the Garda technical bureau is set to examine the scene, after the body of a woman in her 60s and her 23 year old son were found inside a house near Lixnaw last night.
The body of the woman's partner, a man in his 60s, was found in a field nearby alongside a shotgun.
All three had gunshot wounds.
Kerry mayor and Fianna Fail councillor Jimmy Moloney says the local community is stunned.
"It really is an upsetting and terrible tragedy.
"There's a real sense of shock and sadness in the area, and it's something that's hard to get your head around.
"We want to offer our sympathies to the wider family, the neighbours and the community in Lixnaw, and they have our support at this time."
