It's largely down to the budget
A rise in the carbon tax by 7euro 50cent per tonne, announced last Tuesday, has sparked a 1.5cent jump in the cost of a litre of petrol.
While diesel prices are up a slightly higher rate, at 2 cent per litre according to the AA's Fuel Price Index.
Despite this, the cost of both petrol and diesel is still significantly lower than levels seen in 2019 and early 2020.
