The state is set to offer grants of up to 25,000 euro to improve energy ratings in homes, with the aim of retrofitting 500 thousand houses by 2030.

Representatives in the construction industry have cited concerns about labour shortages, which they say could cause delays in carrying out the work.

Minister Eamon Ryan is appealing to people to consider entering the construction sector:

"We've about four and a half 1000 apprenticeship places this year. So I think for a lot of young people are looking at CAO form at the moment I think or even think some some looking to reskill this will be well paid. It'll be high quality and very fulfilling work because you're helping people improve their homes. You're helping tackle climate change. You're helping protect us against these fossil fuel price rise."
