The National Parents' Council for primary school children has called for the voluntary contributions process to be scrapped.
Voluntary contributions are made by parents to cover annual heating, electricity and maintenance costs in primary schools.
The contributions can range from 200 to 400 Euro per household depending on the size of the school.
