Staff morale is at an all time low among Gardaí with many disillusioned at the lack of support they receive.

Members of the Garda Representative Association are gathering in Westport, Co Mayo this morning for their annual conference.

Retaining staff, morale and assaults on Gardaí will all be discussed at the gathering.

A junior Minister is denying any wrongdoing about a land sale in Co. Limerick 15 years ago.

Fianna Fail's Niall Collins has been under pressure to make a Dail statement on the transaction, amid allegations he was a member of Limerick County council when it voted to dispose of the land, later bought by the Deputy's wife.

In a statement the Minister of State for Higher Education says the land in Patrickswell was sold following a 'transparent and open sales process, which was open to all'.

Electricity prices here are the most expensive in Europe.

The latest Household Energy Price Index, shows the unit price for electricity in Ireland is almost double the EU average and has almost doubled for some households in the past year, despite a series of cost-of-living credits.

Gardai are examining the use of new speed camera's which can also detect if drivers are using their mobile phones or not wearing a seat-belt.

The technology is also capable of knowing if a motorist is breaking a red light or illegally using a bus lane.
