There are calls for new safety measures that exist on Motorways abroad, to be implemented here.

The Mayor of County Cork says far too many people are coming down the wrong route or slip road and barriers with sensors are needed to stop people driving on the wrong side of motorways.

It's comes as a 16 year old boy was killed in a head on collision at Ballybeg in Mitchelstown over the weekend when the car he was travelling in was driving the wrong way on the M8.

Terms of reference for a review of the governance and culture at RTÉ will be brought to Cabinet this morning.

Media Minister Catherine Martin will also seek permission to appoint someone to examine the accounts of RTÉ going back a number of years.

Ministers will reveal how much money they expect to have to spend in this year's budget later today.

The Summer Economic Statement is one of the last major staging posts before the budget and is expected to show a surplus in the region of ten billion euro this year.

Much of that is fuelled by bumper corporation tax receipts which Ministers warn can't be relied on indefinitely.

Police are continuing to question an Irish tourist after his partner was strangled to death at a hotel in a Spanish holiday resort.

Police arrested the 30-year-old man on Sunday night after rushing to a hotel in the Costa Dorada resort of Salou where they discovered the woman's body in a corridor.

Police say she appeared to have been strangled with a cord.
