The government is being warned that nursing homes across the country will be forced to close as they face unsustainable financial pressures.

31 nursing homes have closed in the past three years.

Families of residents at Beaumont Residential Care have held protests outside the constituency offices of Ministers Simon Coveney, Michael McGrath and Tánaiste Micheál Martin recently following the the withdrawal of the care home from the Fair Deal Scheme, with the National Treatment Purchase Fund is refusing to cover inflationary increases

On-call firefighters say a national fire service would solve the issues they're facing.

They walked out of the public gallery in the Dail last night following Minister Daragh O'Brien's address.

He said he will commit to positively deal with the retainer payment for firefighters at future public pay talks.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses after an assault in Ballincollig, Co. Cork.

A man in his 30s was taken to hospital after the incident on Innishmore Drive in the town on Monday evening.

Another man in his 30s, and a woman in her 20s, were arrested and have since been released without charge.

A file is being prepared for the DPP and Gardaí are asking for anyone with information to come forward.
