Today is National 'Go Purple Day', which aims to raise awareness about domestic abuse and the local support services available to those affected.
An Garda Síochána has partnered with Men's Aid and Safe Ireland to mark the day.
Members of the public, as well as Garda personnel across the country, have been encouraged to show their support today by wearing something purple.
However, they say the most important thing is to help spread the word about this important issue.
In a statement to RedFM News, the Gardaí say they want to reassure the public that they are there to listen, protect and support victims of domestic abuse, sexual crime and gender-based violence.
SafeIreland.ie has a national freephone helpline which can guide you to your nearest Domestic Violence support service. They can be contacted on 1800 341 900.
