A top lawyer has left Ireland's largest law firm after demanding payment to not object to a housing development.
The Irish Independent revealed last week that a number of residents in south Dublin had requested a developer pay them 225 thousand euro each in exchange for not opposing a proposed housing project in the area.
The developer referred the matter to the Garda fraud squad - and it's emerged the lead homeowner has now left the Matheson law firm.
Fionnán Sheehan from the Irish Independent explains what happened when he approached the company:
"I went to them and just said 'Do you know this email was sent from one of your email accounts? They came back with a very strong statement basically saying, 'Madison email and stationery is for Madison work only. We take this matter very seriously'. Then there was a further development last night, when we got a call to say 'This individual has now left the firm'.
