A trade union is calling for employers to give €1000 tax-free voucher payments to their workers.
The Deputy General Secretary of SIPTU said at a conference today that employers should take full advantage of changes made in the recent budget.
Under the changes, employers can now give up to €1000 worth of tax-free vouchers to employees as one-off payments.
The union says this would alleviate the huge pressures that workers are under because of inflation and the cost-of-living crisis.
The call comes after workers in Apple’s European headquarters at Hollyhill accepted a pay deal at the end of September, which doubled the company’s voucher scheme from €500 to €1,000.
The industrial relations talks also yielded a 9.25% pay increase, and a move towards pay parity for Apple's Cork workers by September 2023.
