Trade unions are calling on the Taoiseach to get involved in discussions about the privatisation of Local Employment Services and Jobs Clubs.

SIPTU and Fórsa say community services should not be put in the hands of for-profit companies and are staging a protest outside the Taoiseach's office in Turner's Cross later this morning.

It follows a recommendation from the Workplace Relations Commission that the unions and officials from the Department of Social Protection meet to discuss the matter....

SIPTU say the Department has refused and is now calling on Micheál Martin to meet with them.

Speaking to RedFM New, Adrian Kane from SIPTU says more discussion is needed before the current system is changed.

"This is not the space where I don't believe that Irish people want the community sector to end up, or community development ending up in- it needs to stop.

"There needs to be a larger stakeholder forum to see what's progressive way in which to provide social services that have been over the last 25 years been provided for not for profit organisations, but now that the way in which government is implementing this policy will ensure that it ends up in the commercial sector."
