Trade unions say workers are the victims of inflation when prices are allowed to spiral out of control.
They're calling for inflation-proofed pay rises to help those on low incomes deal with the rising cost of living.
Last week, Tanaiste Leo Varadkar said increasing pay is not the answer as it could lead to companies upping their prices in tandem.
General Secretary of Forsa Kevin Callinan, says right now, those with the least are being hit the hardest:
"Workers are not the cause of inflation, they're the victims of inflation. And, you know, it may be true to say that over a period of time, national competitiveness will suffer if we end up in a wage price spiral as you describe what there is absolutely no question the way in which a high inflation environment works is that it impacts most on those at the bottom."
