Labour's transport spokesperson Duncan Smith thinks no-one will be happy with a taxi fare increase.
The price of hailing a cab has gone up from €3.80 to €4.20 after an NTA review.
Drivers must also now offer card as a form of payment.
Deputy Smith doesn't think the fare hike is good for passengers or taxi drivers:
"I think this is going to be bad news for the 1000s of people across the country who use taxis, who need to use taxis for work or for recreation. From taxi drivers I'm speaking to, they're saying that it's not enough to cover the increase in fuel and other costs that are required to ruin their taxi."
