The school where Ashling Murphy taught says it still grieves her loss every day - on the first anniversary of her death.
The 23-year-old school teacher was killed while going for a run along the Grand Canal in Tullamore.
Pupils and staff Durrow National School are marking the anniversary mass today.
Local councillor Declan Harvey says what happened is still very raw.
"It does;t feel like a year. It's very raw, and people are still very emotional about it.
"It's hard on her family, it's hard on the people of Tullamore, of Offaly, and the country.
"There was a huge outburst of grief, and it's just very hard."
