"Digs" aren't a viable long-term option for students who need a place to live.
That's according to the UCC Students Union who are calling on the Government to intervene with the student accommodation crisis.
Many students who have accepted college places didn't know whether they would be living in Cork, Galway or Dublin until they received their CAO offers and are now struggling to find affordable accommodation, with some students becoming victims of rental scams.
College students will take part in a "student walk out" on the 13th of October where they will call on the Government to take action against the current cost of living crisis.
Meanwhile, The Cork Cost of Living Campaign will be holding a demonstration this Saturday, September 17th at 2pm on Grand Parade to protest against the increasing cost of living.
Speaking to RedFM News, Student Welfare Officer at UCC SU, Alannah O'Connor says a lot of stressed out students are coming to her for advice.
"The Minister is really pushing digs, but we don't see that as a viable long term solution for students.
"There's not much we can do, a lot of is it just staying persistent, keep looking, and don't fall for rental scams.
"We just have to say 'sorry, your options are either to commute or else having to pay these extortionate accommodation prices.'"
