Irish Rail is considering installing vending machines on inter city services.
According to the Irish Times the move is being considered following the suspension of trolley services three years ago.
An announcement is expected soon on the return of 'some level' of trolley services.
Currently passengers can only buy food and drink on board the Dublin to Belfast Enterprise service.
