We're being warned that petrol prices will continue to rise.
Prices hit €2 a litre at one Dublin petrol station yesterday, and it's expected that price will soon be replicated and even increased at forecourts across the country soon.
The Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries met last night but decided not to increase supplies, while the Russia-Ukraine conflict is also having a huge impact.
Motoring journalist Geraldine Herbert says we're also paying high excise duty here, which accounts for over half the price of each litre of fuel.
"The coalition of oil producing nations can only benefit from high prices.
"The worry is if they push the prices too fire it will back fire, and push us all into recession.
"All that the AA and the Irish Petrol Retailers Association are calling for, and what they see as the only end to this at the moment, is for the Government to actually step in and reduces the amount of tax on it, because tax is a huge component of what we pay at the pumps."
