Wealthier nations have been accused of hypocrisy when it comes to helping poorer countries deal with the impacts of climate change.

The Taoiseach has announced Ireland will contribute €10 million to a global fund to help countries affected by climate disasters.

A Loss and Damage fund is high on the agenda at Cop27, which urges wealthier nations to help poorer countries who are suffering the brunt of climate change.

Taoiseach Micheál Martin is expected to highlight climate injustice when he addresses world leaders at the summit in Egypt later.

Director for Energy and Development at the Breakthrough Institute in California, Vijaya Ramachandran, says developed countries need to keep their promises:

"I do believe that rich countries generally are quite hypocritical about the issue of climate change. The issue you mentioned around climate financing rich countries have made promises that they have not kept, in 2009 $100 billion was promised for climate adaptation and mitigation that is largely talked materialized. So I think you know, poor countries are losing trust in this whole process."
