It happened in the Sandyhill area at around 3.30 this afternoon.
Gardaí were called to a house in the area, and an investigation is under way.
Garrett McNamee is a reporter with The Journal - he says emergency services discovered the woman at the scene:
"They found the remains of a woman who I believe is in her 50s. Gardaí have yet to confirm the deceased age, but it's understood that this woman had suffered a violent death and had been actually stabbed to death. Gardaí have not made any arrests at the moment, but they are in the process of tracking people who may have been with the deceased prior to her death."
