Women veterans of the defence forces say the proposed terms of an inquiry into sexual abuse allegations looks 'another cover-up'.

The Women of Honour Group says the Minister for Defence 'does not appear to appreciate the seriousness of the issues' it’s raised.

They say initial proposals which would have involved them in drafting the inquiry’s terms have been cast aside and that Defence officials taken over the process.

Diane Byrne, a former Army engineer and a spokesperson for Women of Honour, says it seems to be an exercise in damage control for the military establishment.

"When you look at how it's put together, what it's not doing, it's not investigating anything. It's not looking at any of the details or any of the people. I just don't see how they can get the truth or how they can achieve it. Certainly, if you look back at this country and previous reviews in the past, There's a sense of cover up in this country. And this to me is it comes across like another cover."
