World leaders have paid tribute to veterans of World War Two as D-Day is remembered 80 years on.
It was the largest seaborne invasion in military history and was key to ending the war.
Ceremonies are taking place in Normandy where the French President was joined by the US President and the British Prime Minister.
President Emmanuel Macron addressed crowds at the British Normandy Memorial earlier this afternoon
"Nobody here in France, in Normandy can forget their sacrifice, and your sacrifice, and your presence to be with us is such an important day"
A storm forecast by Maureen Sweeney at the weather station in Blacksod Lighthouse in Mayo forced the landings to be delayed by two days.
