A 12-year-old boy has been killed after the car he was driving collided with a lorry in Co Limerick.
It happened on the outskirts of Adare at around 2 o'clock this morning.
The boy was pronounced dead at the scene and his body has now been removed to the morgue at University Hospital Limerick.
A man in his 40s who was driving the truck did not need hospital treatment.
Gardai are appealing for witnesses, especially anyone who may have dash-cam footage.
Limerick journalist David Raleigh says the young boy was about to turn 13:
"I understand from sources that this boy who was driving this car, which incidentally was a Nissan Qashqai was soon to celebrate his 13th birthday. I understand the boy is originally from Eastern Europe, and had been living in less West Limerick for the past number of years. So obviously, tragic, very, very sad events for that boy's family this morning."
