Catriona Twomey of Cork Penny Dinners is to receive a special Community Spirit Award this evening in recognition of her support to the vulnerable during the Covid 19 pandemic.
This is the first time since 2019 that the awards will take place physically, having been held online in 2020 and 2021.
Each year, six people receive Lord Mayor's Civic Awards in recognition of their efforts to improve the lot of the community, while six groups receive Lord Mayor's Community & Voluntary Awards in recognition of services they provide in the community.
This year the Lord Mayor's Civic Awards will be presented to five recipients in City Hall tonight, with the sixth having been awarded to Don O'Leary, Director of Cork Life Centre earlier this year.
Catriona Twomey has been singled out for a special Community Spirit Award in recognition of all her work with the vulnerable during the pandemic and her work and travel to the Polish-Ukrainian border with medical supplies in the Ukrainian humanitarian relief effort.
