There are calls for contactless payments on public transport to be fast tracked.
A tendering process took place earlier this year but the use of bank cards and digital wallets on buses, trains and trams is not expected to be widely available until next year or the year after.
Dublin Fine Gael Councillor Aoibhinn Tormey says the switch needs to be sped up:
"We need to be moving with the times. It needs to be prioritized. That's what I'm trying to put the pressure on the NTA to do and we're looking to try and get people out of their cars in order to achieve climate targets, and it needs to be easy for people, you know, particularly for people who've been using their cars for years on, you know, have to make that change".
