The Competition and Consumer Protection Commission is urging people to act quickly if they wish to return any unwanted gifts.
If an item is bought in-store, return rights will depend on the shop's own policy, unless the item is faulty.
Grainne Griffin, Director Of Communications at the CCPC explains has this advice:
"When you go into a shop you have every opportunity to look at something before you make a purchase, which means the shop isn't obliged to take 'change of mind' returns, although many of them do. The good thing is around Christmas many of them actually offer extended 'change of mind' returns which means we can return gifts potentially bought in early December up to late in January.
