Cork City needs up to 125 more Gardaí.
Padraig Harrington of the Garda Representative Association in Cork has hit out at the news that just one of the 151 new Gardaí, sworn in last week, will be assigned to the city.
Fresh calls have already been made for more gardai to be allocated to Cork city in the face of rising violence which has left some communities on the northside living in fear
Speaking to RedFM News, the GRA's Padraig Harrington says it's time there was an increase in the Garda allocation for Cork:
"We have 15 Garda stations across Cork City, that require four different units to police them, on a 24-hour basis. I've always said that we're short 120 to 125 guards. When you break it down, it's only two extra guards per unit or station on duty at any one time. We need that as a minimum and I mean a minimum".
